How does one determine which type of deck to use.
I am in the process of placing an order for a new single speed drive. I know I will be using a single speed or a fixed gear. I would like to use a compact Deore drive or later a giese drive. I have no preference between single speed or fixed gear.
When I first learned to ride a bicycle, I bought a Schwinn step through frame. In an effort to be “cool” I mounted the rear wheel to a single speed, and I was in heaven. The same thing happened when I bought a tennis racquet, the feel of the strings was so much better. Now I’m in the process of building a custom frame, and I am going with a single speed drive. It seems a lot better to me than a fixed gear, plus I get a chance to build the bike to my own design. Thanks!
I am building a bicycle using a single speed drive. The wheels are the same size as a mountain bike. Is there a way to mount the rear wheel, so that the drive is similar to the center line of a fixed gear?
Since you can change the gearing on a single speed, that would help you find the right sprocket to use. You could also cut the freewheel out of the bottom bracket and run the front sprocket on the seat tube.
